I’m delighted to share that the ALIFE 2025 Public Expo, which I created with Martha Emerson, has received the Education & Outreach Award from the International Society for Artificial Life (ISAL). You can see the full list of winners in the ISAL 2026 awards announcement.

The award recognises “the authors of an outstanding project that either teaches about Artificial Life or uses Artificial Life techniques to teach about another topic, or inspires users to learn more on their own.” That last part is exactly what we hoped the Expo would do: make artificial life visible, playful, and welcoming to people who might never otherwise come across it.

The Expo started life at ALIFE 2025 in Kyoto, and is now growing into ALife Expo Online, a collaborative education initiative. Thank you to Martha, to everyone who contributed to the Expo, and to ISAL for the recognition. There’s more to come - please email me if you would like to contribute to the expo in any way.
